The Oil Ri(n)g

  • Mondays, 7:00pm8:00pm

A transmission from an oil rig five hundred miles off the Scottish coast. The crashing waves of the North Sea drown out the sound of the heavy machinery and the rain never ceases. It's bitterly cold and the dense fog makes it hard to navigate the small floating structure. The rig is a tight-knit community, but co-workers have begun to disappear. Out in the fog something lurks. Noises can be heard in the dead of night, sometimes growls, but also faint sounds of music. The frigid water begins to look appealing, like it's calling out to you. The electricity goes out and the machinery grinds to a halt. You hear a child's voice singing The Doobie Brother's 1972 hit "Listen to the Music". The fog thickens. The waves grow larger. The sound of a gong echoes through the passages of the rig. You look out from the deck and see a dark mass coming closer. You hear the gong one more time. Then you jump into the sea.
