On Thursday, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi addressed the Yale community at Sprague Hall Auditorium as part of the Chubb Fellowship, and WYBC was there to broadcast live the speech of one of the most extraordinary women in the world. Daw Suu won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, and has spent 15 of the past 21 years under house arrest for resisting the military dictatorship in Burma.

However, in 2012, Daw Suu was finally released from house arrest and allowed to finally collect her Nobel Peace Prize in June amidst a transformation in Burma that saw Daw Suu become the opposition leader in a democratically-elected Parliament. Her visit to Yale was inspiring to many on campus, and you can listen to a podcast of her address below.

WYBC thanks Ifeanyi Awachie and Tara Abraham for putting the broadcast together. Special thanks also to Timothy Dwight College Master Jeff Brenzel, who along with Yale President Richard Levin introduced Daw Suu, and a special thanks to Yale Vice President Linda Lorimer for helping publicize our broadcast.

WYBC is proud to have broadcast the voice of Aung San Suu Kyi to the world, and we hope to follow her call to “never give up” on our dreams.
